JPM biopharma comms meetup, what 🍓 means for AI, 2025 volunteers, and more

There’s more to Ticket to Biotech’s origin story than what’s on the About webpage. Take a peek under the hood with this recent Q&A with community founder Lynnea Olivarez.

As we approach T2B’s one-year anniversary next month, it’s special to start planning the “second annual” instances of some of our programming hits, including T2Bmeet @ JPM, which was our first-ever IRL event last January.

Whether you’re new to T2B or have been with us since the beginning, thank you for being here.

Today's email is 1,232 words, a 5-minute read.

Join T2B at JPM 2025

It’s that time of year again. Yup, JPM planning is upon us.

We’re hosting not one, but two events — both spaces where you can come hang with fellow biopharma communicators. See old friends and meet some new ones, too!

We’re partnering with FleishmanHillard’s Health & Life Science Team for our second annual T2Bmeet @ JPM, at their office right near Union Square. It’s hard to overstate how big of a step up this is from last year (IYKYK)!

Now accepting RSVPs. Contribute as you wish — half of all ticket sales will go to Life Science Cares.

And get some Zen Before JPM at a private yoga class and small-group mixer for T2Bers the day before the chaos officially begins. We’ve rented out a studio near downtown SF, and the class will even be led by a local biotech scientist who’s a certified yoga instructor. There are <20 spots available, and we anticipate this event will sell out.

Everyone in T2B, regardless if you’re in town for JPM or are local to the Bay Area, is invited to join these special events.

Quite the Week!

What better way to mark the end of Q3 than with regional meetups in a couple biopharma hubs?

Thanks to Real Chemistry for hosting our first T2Bmeet @ NY and to Third Rock Ventures for holding our second T2Bmeet @ Boston, with support from Ten Bridge Communications, this past week. (Click picture for video.)

At both meetups, we partnered with Life Science Cares to assemble food bags for Henry Street Settlement and CASPAR (Cambridge And Somerville Programs for Addiction Recovery). Integrating these give-back opportunities whenever possible is core to the T2B ethos.

Be on the lookout for T2Bmeet to hit Europe in November — planning for an event in London is underway. Details forthcoming.

Next Week’s Virtual Event: Policy, Politics, and Public Perception

Instead of our usual monthly fireside chat, we’re convening a full panel for our October Comm Convo to tackle policy, politics, and public perception in our industry. These are complex topics and election season can feel a little topsy-turvy, to say the least.

To help us make sense of it all, we're privileged to bring you next week three distinct public affairs perspectives. Gain practical insights into managing social and political engagement, determining the right communication moments, and navigating access narratives.

2024 Comm Convos are free and open for approved members of the T2B community

ICYMI, What the Most Recent ChatGPT Release Means for Communicators

OpenAI released a preview of its next ChatGPT model, o1, earlier this month, previously code-named 🍓.

That news earned a spot in this month’s T2B newsletter because of this important tidbit: o1 can reason with human-level problem-solving, signifying the jump from Level 1 to Level 2 (of 5 Levels) on the path to Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI. Simply put, AGI is “a theoretical AI system capable of rivaling human thinking.”

This technology is accelerating faster than many had predicted, creating new opportunities for our teams to deploy AI more strategically than tactically, which Deloitte found in their latest Corporate Affairs Report is the opposite of what’s happening currently.

pharmaphorum Collaborative Reporting Opportunities

In this month’s Biopharma Beats Bulletin, we profiled pharmaphorum editor-in-chief Jonah Comstock.

There are only four people on staff covering news across multiple countries and via multiple mediums, at least one of which may surprise you (hint: collaborative opportunities for reporting trips).

Jonah says the best PR folks focus on relationship-building. Read the full profile in T2B Slack’s #announcement channel for more tips on just how to cultivate that relationship with Jonah and his team.

When Science and Poetry Mix

This month in Pulse Narratives, we’re spotlighting Usman Hameedi, a scientist with a background in poetry who’s exploring a career as a future biopharma communicator. We welcome biopharma comms pros of all kinds and all stages to T2B!

Volunteers Wanted to Lead 2025 Peer-Coaching Groups

We're currently recruiting 15 volunteers with at least 10 years of biopharma comms experience to be Cohort Leads for T2B’s second annual peer-coaching program. Joining the next edition of our Peer-Learning Practicum will provide an opportunity to network on a meaningful level, share your knowledge and perspectives, and learn from each other.

Each Lead will manage a group of five to six people and be in charge of scheduling monthly virtual discussions from February to June next year. Complete this form to learn more and register your interest as a Cohort Lead.

Cohort Leads who are approved by November 30, 2024 will receive a complimentary one-year T2B Pro membership in 2025, as we transition to a freemium model. (Note: Only 15 Cohort Leads will be approved at this time.) PLP coaching group participant registration opens in January.

Somehow we don’t think that your Gen Z daughter’s marketing script would make it past MLR review. But luckily for us, this English B&B’s owner and her daughter didn’t have to deal with MLR, and their video found its way into our LI feed and now, into your email.

Marketing pro Nathan Jun Poekert reminds us to continue looking outside our industry for creative inspiration that translates to brands “in ways that feel real and entertaining.”

Did someone forward this to you? T2B membership not required to get our emails.
