Invest in Executive Coaching With Leadership Lab
Today we’re launching our first premium program, a combo networking-executive coaching series tailored specifically for our largest membership demographic (in terms of career stage): seasoned communicators. In partnership with stellar executive coach, Carly Goldsmith, we’re introducing the Leadership Lab and its first workshop, the Corporate Advisor Series. |
Led by Carly, this six-week virtual workshop (1 hour per week) in September and October is designed for senior biopharma communicators with ≥15 years of experience who seek to elevate their influence as corporate advisors and leaders in a complex and highly regulated environment.
The Corporate Advisor Series will highlight the comms function’s evolution toward a strategic corporate affairs role by exploring leadership in three parts: leading the business, leading yourself, and leading others. You’ll also meet individually with Carly for a private coaching session. Program details here.
This Fall 2024 cohort is limited to 15 spots. Apply and use promo code EARLYACCESS, valid through THIS Sunday, June 2nd, for a special 20% discount on top of early bird pricing.
Not sure if this is the right program for you? We have two upcoming opportunities to help you evaluate:
1️⃣ Drop by our virtual info and Q&A session with Carly on Tuesday, June 25th, from 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. ET. Say hi to Carly, find out what to expect, and get your questions answered about Leadership Lab.
2️⃣ Join “Unmasking Leadership,“ a complimentary, industry-agnostic, drop-in, interactive discussion series hosted every Tuesday from 8-8:50 a.m. ET. See Carly in action as she facilitates the June 18th discussion on persuasive communication.
Don’t worry, if you’re an aspiring or early- or mid-stage communicator, we’ve got more specialty programming for you coming, too!

June Comm Convo: Embracing Diversity and Allyship in Biopharma Comms
With both Pride and Juneteenth approaching, June presents a unique occasion to refine and amplify communication efforts that underscore our industry’s commitment to DEI.
For our upcoming Comm Convo on June 11th, we're welcoming Lex Clay, who will discuss how his experiences as a trans person have shaped his path as an LGBTQ+ advocate, educator, and speaker. With a background rooted in medical science, Lex will discuss practices that support authentic allyship- not only this month as we navigate Pride and Juneteenth, but also throughout the year.
☝️ Friendly reminder: Comm Convos are free but open only to our T2B community. Confirm your eligibility, and complete our two-minute intake form if you’re not already a member.
I’ve Driven DEI Efforts at Storied Biopharma and Financial Services Companies and Across Multiple Industries. Ask Me Anything.
Catch us live in the T2B #AMA Slack channel on Wednesday, June 26th at 12 p.m. ET for our second AMA session! We'll host Perika Sampson, an esteemed DEI executive, thought leader, advocate, and strategist, who is also the former Global Head of Inclusion and Diversity at Gilead. |
Perika has worked with major organizations in financial services and biopharma to address critical issues such as health equity, talent acquisition, professional development, and community engagement. As we wrap up Pride and Juneteenth celebrations, let's end this special month with practical tips and insights that can guide communicators in taking meaningful actions to create impact throughout the year.
Fierce Pharma West: Connections, Communications, and… Churros?
Attending a Fierce Pharma PR & Communications Summit always leaves us invigorated, and the 2024 West Summit was no exception. It was a privilege to advise this year’s Rising Stars cohort! A common theme was that these emerging leaders’ roles are rapidly evolving, from responsibilities’ scope (employee engagement, crisis comms, etc.), to the wide breadth of topics and issues affecting how we do our jobs (AI, DEI, to name a couple).
Our group chats and the scavenger hunt were special highlights, and through T2B, we look forward to continue supporting this group on their journey as biopharma communicators.
Fierce Pharma West’s 2024 Rising Stars Cohort
While we can’t speak to whether Fierce Pharma PR & Communications East Summit coming up in July will have the same quality of churros as West, we can’t wait to continue this energy! There are still a few spots open for the East Rising Stars cohort for practitioners who have <5 years of biopharma comms experience. Will you join us? Apply here.
May Comm Convo Recap: Demystifying the Discrepancies in Biopharma Comms Titles and Salaries
Deciding on your next career move is challenging enough, but when you add in the pay and title discrepancies across different types of biopharma comms roles, it can feel like an extra layer of unnecessary complexity. |
To get more clarity on this, and the biopharma hiring landscape as a whole, we chatted with executive recruiter Alma Hembree during our May Comm Convo.
According to Hembree, there are many factors that contribute to a job’s title and salary designation: the size of a company, whether it’s public or private, and whether you’re at an agency or in-house. She notes that “sometimes salaries can be more inflated at a smaller biotech, especially when there’s been successful products.” Yet, she says, she’s seen it both ways, where “large pharma [can pay] much more… but is going to be more stringent on that salary band.”

Hot Take: “Simple” Tasks Aren’t Always Easy
As any comms practitioner knows, the seemingly simplest tasks are often the ones that require the most patience, perseverance, and coffee break venting sessions 💆♀️. That's why our May hot take offers a tongue-in-cheek glimpse behind the scenes at a task we're sure everyone has endured: sourcing and editing executive bios. Was our reenactment a little too relatable? Did a memory of drafting your sixth “Just following up!” email flash before your eyes? Reply to this email to share your own hot take on your hardest “simple” task. We just might share our faves (anonymously!) in our next newsletter. |
This Month’s Biopharma Beats Bulletin Features Stephanie DeMarco, Associate Editor & Team Lead at Drug Discovery News
Stephanie DeMarco’s scientific training has come in handy as the Associate Editor & Team Lead at Drug Discovery News (DDN). Armed with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, she meticulously transforms complex scientific developments into accessible and engaging narratives. Stephanie also oversees DDN’s editorial team and their podcast, DDN Dialogues. |
In the May edition of Biopharma Beats Bulletin, Stephanie discusses how her small team works to “stay on top of what’s happening” in an ever-changing field. Instead of covering breaking news like some competitors, DDN chooses to focus on “the storytelling aspects [and] getting really excited about the new science that’s coming out.” DDN even posts their editorial calendar online, so comms and PR pros know exactly what to pitch and when. How cool is that?!
“We just try to tell a really great story about science… and hopefully that will inspire, entertain readers and get them excited about the new science and spark some ideas.”

T2B Community Voices & Insights
This month in Pulse Narratives, we’re featuring Mina Nguyen, a director of product communications at Pfizer. Throughout her career, Mina has tried to embrace each defeat as a valuable lesson, and always strives to give 10 times more than she receives. |
💭 Mina reflects that T2B "is desperately needed in our field" because "we have to work within the confines of a heavily regulated industry, and while we would love to be as creative and out of the box as possible, we need to communicate compliantly. Not all industries get that." So true!

Is your organization walking the talk when it comes to inclusion, or just talking?
This LinkedIn post by Dr. Joanne Kamens highlights the disconnect organizations often have between talking about inclusivity, and being more inclusive.
Employers often mistakenly believe that public declarations of inclusivity on social media tick the box. However, true inclusivity demands more than token gestures and calendar events.
She notes, “If your tactics are about marking dates on a calendar but do not drive meaningful change, your efforts will not be effective.”
Yes.
