Meet our advisors, master YOUR message, comic sans, and more
Who said summer was slow? Definitely not us. But that’s 💯 a good thing.
In July, we’ll host our sixth Comm Convo, fourth T2Bmeet, third AMA, and first executive coaching workshop, plus publish our seventh Biopharma Beats Bulletin. Oh, and we officially launched T2B’s ad board today, too!
We hope to catch you on Zoom, Slack, or on the East Coast at Fierce or T2Bmeet @ Boston. Happy summertime!
Today's email is 1,563 words, a 7.5-minute read.

Milestone Moment! Introducing T2B’s Ad Board
T2B’s new advisory board will provide strategic guidance, feedback, and ideas to support our mission of cultivating connections and conversations for biopharma communicators.
This group will play a critical role in shaping our programming and growth strategies to ensure T2B’s platform meets the evolving needs of our community.
Is It Really a Bad Thing to Name Drop?
Ironically, we comms folks are not always great about promoting ourselves, even though we do it for others for a living!
Not to fear, the next program in T2B’s Leadership Lab is here (rhyming unintentional)!
Free and open to communicators at all career stages in our community, Master Your Message will equip you with a refreshed strategy for refining your personal messaging in a way that resonates across various scenarios.
This one-hour virtual workshop on July 31st will be split into two parts:
Executive coach Carly Goldsmith will initially guide us through best practices for constructing a compelling personal summary and enhancing professional introductions. Expect to be challenged about common perceptions, such as the strategic use of name-dropping!
We’ll then split up into breakout sessions with fellow T2B community members. Here, you’ll get to network while also obtaining feedback on your own messaging as you test and refine it among friends.
And if you’re a communicator with more than 15 years of experience, take a closer look at the Leadership Lab’s premium program, the T2B Corporate Advisor Series — we’re accepting applications now.
June Comm Convo Recap: How to Really Champion Diversity and Allyship
As June comes to a close we’re reflecting on Pride Month and Juneteenth. Consider these 10 takeaways from July's Comm Convo as a way to foster inclusive practices in biopharma communications throughout the year. |
On a related note, if you missed our AMA this week with DEI strategist Perika Sampson, the complete chat transcript lives in the #ama channel on Slack.
☝️ Did you know that the #ama channel in T2B Slack is open 24/7? You can join it any time and scroll back through the Q&A in its entirety. Click Add channels -> Browse channels -> Search for ama.
Let’s Delve Into AI Best Practices
AI has been part of the conversation, and a source of endless fascination, since T2B’s inception. That’s why we're excited to announce that July's theme will officially be focused on AI applications within our profession.
Join us for our next fireside chat on Thursday, July 18th at 12 p.m. ET with Daniel Mendez, who is himself part of T2B and brings expertise in both communications and AI. We’ll also include demos of top tools like ChatGPT and Otter. Mark your calendar and sign up below!
BTW, if you don’t know why “delve” is highlighted above, read this.
☝️ Friendly reminder: Comm Convos are free this year but open only to our T2B community. Confirm your eligibility, and complete our two-minute intake form if you’re not already a member.
Wait, Wait! There’s More in This Tapestry of July AI Programming
Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves. 💁♀️
But we’re making up for it by bringing you BaiRBIE’s creator (who we met through a T2B connection! ) for our next AMA on T2B Slack.
Shirley Mao and her team develop their own AI products and collaborate with change-maker tech and biopharma companies to push the boundaries of their digital brands. Her other projects beyond BaiRBIE, such as the AI Photobooth for biotech conferences, the educational comic series #cellstories, and Trials.Co for clinical trial recruitment, highlight only a few of the emerging possibilities in our space with AI.
This T2B Slack AMA session offers a chance to ask Shirley about her approach to AI integration, her process for developing AI-driven solutions, and how communicators can think more creatively about using AI in their work — even within the confines of our highly regulated industry.
T2Bmeet: San Diego? ✅ SF? ✅ Next Stop, Boston!
T2Bmeet @ BIO | Truly nothing is better than connecting with our T2B community members in person and watching as ideas and conversation flow. Our first T2Bmeet was back in January @ JPM. For our second T2Bmeet, we hosted a breakfast mixer at BIO in San Diego. It was just what we needed during the otherwise hectic conference schedule. |
Then, the following week, AbbVie’s Corporate Affairs Team graciously hosted us for our THIRD T2Bmeet, this time in South San Francisco! We had a lot of fun checking out AbbVie’s Bay Area campus while meeting biopharma communicators local to our neck of the woods. | T2Bmeet @ SF |
If you’re on the East Coast and getting major FOMO right now, you’re in luck! Join us at our next T2Bmeet come-and-go networking breakfast at MassBio in Tech Square on Thursday, July 11th from 7-10 a.m. ET.
☝️ Friendly reminder: T2Bmeets are free this year but open only to our T2B community. Confirm your eligibility, and complete our two-minute intake form if you’re not already a member.
Welcome, Rising Stars of Fierce Pharma East!
This year, we teamed up with Fierce to take their Rising Stars program up a notch. This program provides a scholarship for emerging leaders with <5 years of biopharma comms experience. We’re delighted to announce the 2024 cohort of the Fierce Pharma PR & Communications East Summit. Please join us in congratulating our biggest group yet! |
See you soon in New Jersey!
Hot Take: You’ve Rainbow-ified Your Logo… Now What?
There’s something special about opening our laptops on June 1st and seeing our social channels proudly displaying rainbow logos in celebration of Pride 🏳️🌈. And now that Juneteenth is a federally recognized holiday, there are even more opportunities to champion diversity this month. In our June hot take we ask: what happens to these efforts after June 30th? This month, we’ve challenged our T2B community to go beyond the rainbow logos. |
June’s Biopharma Beats Bulletin Features Allison Gatlin, of Investor’s Business Daily
As the only reporter on the health tech beat at Investor’s Business Daily (IBD), Allison Gatlin’s focus is on US-based publicly traded biotech, pharma, and medtech companies listed on NYSE and NASDAQ and that trade above $10 per share. In the June edition of Biopharma Beats Bulletin, Allison discusses how the ever-changing market keeps her on her toes. |
Writing up to six articles a day (!), she commonly reports on financial news, M&A, preclinical and clinical data, earnings releases, and FDA approvals. Allison notes that when covering industry trends, “something might be hot one day, and then just kind of fall off the radar, and then back”.

Meet Ticket to Biotech’s FIRST Intern!
Although we're grateful for so many generous supporters and volunteers who've brought our community to where it is today, it's been fun this month to welcome our first official colleague. Say hello to Emilie Fierle, T2B’s summer communications and social media intern! |
Emilie will continue to share her intern experiences and takeaways through her Summer Series posts on the Ticket to Biotech LinkedIn page. Read her first dispatch above!
“The reply to comment...the clickbait intro...the sharp transition to higher production clips...the creativity...this video has it ALL 🤝,” says creator Vic Banham.
It makes sense that UGC ruled when we were all trapped in our houses documenting our banana bread- and sourdough-making journeys, but we’re definitely loving the return to sleek, well-produced videos. Unquestionably, #goals for our weekly community discussion topic series.
Plus, don’t you feel so seen?? Please, someone, show up as Comic Sans at a T2Bmeet!
