Enrolling Thru Jan. 29th: Peer-Learning Practicum

T2Bers have asked us for more opps to forge genuine connections with each other, and to grow together. We're big on lifelong learning! The T2B Peer-Learning Practicum (PLP) is a virtual peer-coaching group program. All types of biopharma communicators globally at all experience levels are invited.

How It Works:

Each cohort will comprise 5-7 T2B members, a mix of emerging, mid-stage and veteran communicators.

Cohorts will meet virtually 1x/monthly for ~1 hour, with the first being in late February (date/time TBD based on group members’ schedules). Meetings will occur following the monthly Comm Convo, enabling reflection and deeper discussion.

Peer-Learning Practicum: Cohort Dialogues for Biopharma Comms Success. Monthly meetings February to November 2024. Free and open to all T2B members.

Introducing Comm Convos

Registration is now open for T2B's first Comm Convo, Op-Ed Edge: Crafting Compelling Narratives With Jake Meth. Join us to kick off this new speaker series, where we'll have candid, monthly 1:1 conversations with top-notch comms experts.

Speakers will be a combination of folks from industry and people we love and admire beyond biopharma, to bring the outside in. During each fireside chat, we'll pull back the curtain on a specific topic to inform your own life sci comms strategies. We'll also devote a section of every Comm Convo for audience Q&A.

Details on upcoming Comm Convos coming soon: March - “Patient-Focused Comms With Jen Helfer”; April - “Service-Driven Success With Sarah MacDonald”... more great speakers TBA.

Comm Convo: Op-Ed Edge With Jake Meth. Tuesday, February 6th at 1 p.m. ET. Free and online. Presented by Ticket to Biotech. Jake is the founder of Opinioned and former editor of commentary at Fortune magazine.

Why Attend?

  • Gain first-hand knowledge from Jake, leveraging his experience as a top-tier editor to elevate your op-ed strategy.

  • Learn how to identify and articulate perspectives that make your op-eds stand out in the biopharma sector.

  • Understand how to integrate op-eds into a broader thought leadership program, enhancing your brand’s influence.

  • Hear Jake's tips for pitching and landing your pieces with leading publications, beyond the typical trade press.

This Month’s Bulletin

We recently launched our new Biopharma Beats Bulletin series, a Q&A with a different reporter each month. First up is Alex Philippidis, of Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News (GEN). Learn about Alex’s background, his beat, what he’s watching, pitching tips and conferences where you might find him this year.

“Part of [my job] requires one to really kind of wrestle with the material to understand it. … That way, you're able to convey it to somebody else. So, I find that a challenge, but also one that's really fun when it comes together.”

Alex Philippidis, Senior Business Editor, GEN

Hot Takes

We heard from the T2B community that our 2023 weekly community discussion topics were timely and valuable. We’re back but rebooting this offering via video series. 🎥

Most Tuesdays you can expect us to spotlight a new topic with:

  1. A situational overview

  2. T2B's perspective (based on experience but tinged with opinions!)

  3. Community questions to ponder in Slack

Not only are tales from the trenches welcome in our Slack forum, but so are your questions, even if you have no or limited familiarity with the topic du jour. Discussion roundups will continue to come out on the following Monday.

This week, we explore the unique challenges of biopharma comms. I’ll start. What’s with all the potentially’s?

Community Voices & Insights

Our first T2B Pulse Narrative of 2024 is out. Meet PR all-star (and one of our resident media relations gurus), Danielle Cantey!

🔎 Danielle has always been interested in health and science, but she's grown to love it even more over the years that she's been in the field.

📣 Nominate a life science communicator — whether aspiring or seasoned, someone you admire or even yourself — to spotlight in Pulse Narratives.

Three Ways to Help T2B Thrive

With a mission to cultivate connections and conversations, we aim for Ticket to Biotech to be the go-to place for biopharma communicators of all kinds and all experience levels to network, learn and grow. Many of you have asked us what you can do to help build our community.

  1. Engage. Reply to a Slack thread or comment on a LinkedIn post. Sign up for the PLP. Join our next Comm Convo. Share your knowledge.

  2. Spread the word. Tell your biopharma comms friends about our 2024 programming, and invite them to join via the T2B website.

  3. Partner. Sponsor programming to make T2B sustainable. Special one-time promo to support February offerings here.

As a young communications professional, finding a community in this field is exactly what I was looking for.

Mina Sabet, R&D Communications Specialist at Amgen

To keep 2024 T2B offerings free, sponsorship tracks are in the works and will be available in ~March. Contact us at [email protected] if you might be interested.

Slack Savvy

🔮 Our vision for the private T2B Slack workspace is to be a place for real-time discussion, with power in numbers. Imagine if you have an instantaneous, concrete answer the next time your client or CEO asks, “What are other companies doing?” We acknowledge that engaging in this way is new and might be intimidating.

🗣️ Our hope is that you’ll come to see our Slack channels as a place where you are comfortable sharing your own POV, regardless of where your company or client may stand or where you’re at in your career. This is your chance to grow your network and learn more about different aspects of our profession. All contributions are welcome to the dialogue!

☝️ We vet every single person before accepting them into our community and Slack workspace. Also, remember that all members agree to T2B guidelines prior to joining. We encourage you to give Slack another look if you haven’t dove in yet.

Seen on Social

In each T2B Monthly edition, we’ll call out a LinkedIn post that caught our attention. It might be educational or it might be fun. Or it might be both. Regardless, it’ll be instructive in some way, shape or form.

NPS is one of our favorite, tried-and-true social accounts we follow. Their posts are witty and creative. Even though we don’t anticipate talking about dinosaurs in our real-life job any time soon (though, to be fair, woolly mammoths were a thing a couple of years ago), posts like the one below remind us to keep our comms relatable, sans-jargon and dare we say, humorous?
