Making Sense of the Biopharma Comms Hiring Landscape
Letâs be honest. Yes, there are more biopharma comms jobs emerging, but with the recent spate of layoffs that hasnât quite relented, the talent pool is large and competition fierce.
On top of that, there are numerous particularities to our profession. Whatâs up with the title discrepancy between in-house and agency? Why do jobs that say they require 10 years of experience actually fill the role with people who have north of 15? How the heck do you know if you have enough âexecutive presenceâ as a communicator, or on the flip side, how do you evaluate it in a candidate? |
On Thursday (yes, THIS Thursday), tune into our May Comm Convo, where recruiter Alma Villaseñor Hembree will dig into those things that arenât on a websiteâs careers page or in the LI job description.
All kinds of communicators, and at all career stages, are invited. Whether you're actively thinking about your next career move or just want to know whatâs happening within the industry, this Comm Convo will provide at least one new nugget to consider. Click the button for more details and to sign up.
âïž Friendly reminder: Comm Convos are free but open only to our T2B community. Confirm your eligibility, and complete our two-minute intake form if youâre not already a member.
So, We Asked Exec Recruiter Scott White Anything and Everything. Hereâs What We Learned

Flip through our top 10 takeaways. đ The #ama channel in T2B Slack is public, so you can join it any time and scroll back through the Q&A in its entirety. Hot Takes on Community and Connection
All throughout April weâve been discussing how to create different kinds of connections, even in unlikely places, and the value of community, whether thatâs location-based, values-rooted, or shared via some other kind of bond.
Here are some of the highlights from Aprilâs weekly community discussions: đïž Biopharma communicatorsâ role is critical in articulating and activating CSR strategy (regardless of company/client stage), ensuring that every level of the organization is informed and engaged. đŁïž As communicators, we have an opportunity to incorporate social impact work into our companiesâ and clientsâ narratives. đ€ Take advantage of the long shelf life of your social impact work by partnering with your people & culture and HR teams on how to weave it into talent branding and onboarding. |
In our most recent community discussion, we explored nontraditional networking opportunities. Check it out!

April Comm Convo Recap: A Lesson on How to Communicate for Impact
Sarah MacDonald, CEO of Life Science Cares, is constantly inspired by the endless desire to do good that she sees within biopharma. Sheâs undoubtedly skilled at finding ways to channel this passion into sustainable contributions to better our communities. (And, did you see that LSC recently expanded to Switzerland? How cool is that?!) |
During our fireside chat on April 3rd, Sarah noted that as communicators, weâre uniquely positioned âto see all of the moving parts of an organization and to start to really think aboutâŠ. how can we do more.â

T2B Community Voices & Insights
This month in Pulse Narratives, we're featuring Shannia Coley from CG Life! Like many of us, Shanniaâs journey began outside of the communications field. After earning a neuroscience degree from Boston University, she started out supporting clinical trials, only to discover a growing passion for communications. |
đ Reflecting on her career shift, Shannia shares, âI had always been interested in communicationsâespecially in an era where misinformation runs rampant. I found that serving as the intermediary, someone who could communicate with both scientists and general public, was work not only enjoyable, but also incredibly important.â
We couldnât agree more!
