One thing that communicators aren’t great at
And how T2B can help
Hi!
Communicators are talented people, with knowledge spanning loads of different skill sets.
We have to be excellent researchers, writers, editors, social media managers, presenters, listeners – even graphic designers!
But there’s one thing that I’ve found communicators are typically not very good at: investing in ourselves.
One of the best parts of running our Ticket to Biotech communicator community is all of the conversations I get to have with very cool people.
When I meet someone for the first time, my usual questions (before I dive into chatting about T2B) are, “What’s important to you?”, “What are your goals?”, and “What’s on your mind right now?”.
The funny thing about most of us communicators is that much of the time, the answer I get revolves around the companies people are working at (or for).
Their answer tells me about what’s important to the company, what they’re striving to achieve, and what organizational challenges they’re facing.
And if they do tell me that one of their personal ambitions is to develop their skills, it’s always with the company’s best interests in mind.
Of course, I want T2B to be a place where we can collectively learn from each other and apply new ways of thinking and new resources to our day-to-day jobs, to help our organizations – and the industry as a whole – advance.
But what I also want is for members of our community to think a little more about themselves:
What are YOUR ideas?
YOUR questions?
YOUR concerns?
YOUR goals?
Not your company’s. Not your clients’. YOURS.
Taking the time to reflect, check in with ourselves, and nurture relationships beyond the surface level makes us better communicators, especially in a field like the life sciences, which is super complex yet requires abundant empathy.
So that’s what I want you to do now – take a few minutes to think about what you need. What do you want to achieve? Do you have any challenges that you need help overcoming?
And whatever you come up with, I can almost guarantee that many members of the T2B community will have really similar answers.
Because that’s what T2B is all about: connecting biopharma comms experts like you with like-minded professionals around the globe (both face-to-face and online).
And when T2B Pro launches in January, we’ll be doing even more to help you tap into our resources and growing global network.
For $1K, you’ll have full access to:
A safe space to discuss any challenges you might face in your role.
A non-judgmental environment to raise questions and ask for advice.
A welcoming, friendly community that understands our industry's unique challenges and nuances.
The opportunity to connect with like-minded biopharma comms professionals around the globe (both face-to-face and online).

So, make a pledge to yourself that 2025 will be the year to invest in you – and if you have a team, bring them along, too. The best way to do this is to reserve $1K from your professional development budget to purchase T2B membership on January 15th (here’s an email template you can use to justify the funds!).
And the next time I ask you about your goals, I look forward to the answer being about you!
